Peace can feel like the rarest thing in the world. The news is loud, your phone never stops, your family has needs, and your own mind keeps finding new things to worry about. You might have tried to calm down, take a vacation or simply push through, and still the peace you’re looking for slips away.
The Bible talks about a different kind of peace, one that doesn’t depend on everything going right. Below are 20 Bible verses about peace, grouped by what you’re facing, with a short reflection and prayer for each section. Read them slowly. Save the ones that speak to you, and come back when your heart needs quieting again.

What the Bible means by peace
The Hebrew word for peace, shalom, means much more than “no conflict.” It carries the idea of wholeness, completeness and everything being as it should be. In the New Testament, peace comes first through being made right with God (Romans 5:1), and then flows into our hearts, minds and relationships.
That’s why Jesus could say His peace is different from the world’s. The world offers peace when circumstances improve. Jesus offers peace in the middle of them.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
John 14:27 (NIV)
Bible verses about peace for an anxious mind
When worry takes over, these verses remind you that peace isn’t something you have to produce. It’s something God gives and guards.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”
Isaiah 26:3 (NIV)
“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.”
Psalm 94:19 (NIV)
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
“Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”
Psalm 55:22 (NIV)
Paul doesn’t promise that prayer will instantly change every situation. He promises that God’s peace will guard your heart and mind while you wait. For more on this, see our Bible verses for anxiety.
Prayer: Lord, my mind is crowded with worry. I bring You every request I’ve been carrying, and I thank You for listening. Guard my heart and mind with Your peace, the peace I can’t explain. Amen.
Bible verses about peace in hard times
Jesus never said life would be easy. He said He would be with us, and that He has already won.
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 (NIV)
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.”
Isaiah 43:2 (NIV)
“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
Psalm 23:4 (NIV)
“The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Exodus 14:14 (NIV)
Notice the honesty in these verses. Trouble is real. Waters and rivers and dark valleys are real. But so is the presence of God in every one of them.
Prayer: Jesus, You told me I would have trouble, and I do. Help me take heart because You have overcome the world. Walk with me through these waters and keep me from being swept away. Amen.
Bible verses about peace and rest
Sometimes the lack of peace is simple exhaustion. God invites the weary to stop striving and rest in Him.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.”
Psalm 62:1 (NIV)
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Psalm 46:10 (NIV)
If you’re running on empty, our list of Bible verses about rest goes deeper into this invitation.
Prayer: Father, I’m tired of carrying everything. I come to You weary and burdened. Teach me to be still and know that You are God. Let my soul find rest in You alone. Amen.
Bible verses about peace at night
Night is when worries often get louder. These verses are good ones to read right before you turn off the light.
“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.”
Psalm 4:8 (NIV)
“When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.”
Proverbs 3:24 (NIV)
“I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.”
Psalm 3:5 (NIV)
Prayer: Lord, I lie down in Your peace tonight. You alone make me dwell in safety. I leave tomorrow in Your hands and receive the rest You give. Amen.
Bible verses about the peace of Christ
Peace with God isn’t something we earn. Jesus made it possible through the cross. Isaiah calls the coming Messiah the “Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6), and he describes the cost of that peace:
“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”
Isaiah 53:5 (NIV)
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
Colossians 3:15 (NIV)
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13 (NIV)
Colossians 3:15 says to let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. The picture is of an umpire making the final call. When fear and peace are arguing inside you, let Christ’s peace have the last word.
Bible verses about peace for your home and family
God’s peace isn’t just personal. It is meant to shape our homes and relationships. Jesus blessed peacemakers (Matthew 5:9), and Paul urged believers to live at peace with everyone as far as it depends on them (Romans 12:18).
“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.”
Numbers 6:24-26 (NIV)
“All your children will be taught by the LORD, and great will be their peace.”
Isaiah 54:13 (NIV)
Numbers 6:24-26 is a beautiful blessing to pray over your children at bedtime or over your family at the dinner table.
Prayer: Lord, bless my home and keep it. Make Your face shine on my family. Where there is tension, bring healing. Where there is fear, bring calm. Turn Your face toward us and give us peace. Amen.
How to find God’s peace this week
- Pick one verse. Choose one from this list and read it every morning and every night for seven days.
- Pray with thanksgiving. Philippians 4:6 ties peace to thankful prayer. Name three things you’re grateful for before you list your worries.
- Turn down the noise. Peace is hard to hear over constant input. Try ten quiet minutes without your phone.
- Make peace where you can. Is there a text to send or an apology to make? Peace with others often opens room for peace within.
- Pray the prayers. Our prayers for peace give you words for the days you can’t find your own.
